Föreningen Mediehistoriskt arkiv bjuder in till mediehistoriskt symposium i Uppsala den 24–25 oktober 2024. Symposiet arrangeras i samarbete med Institutionen för idéhistoria och Centrum för digital humaniora och samhällsvetenskap, Uppsala universitet.
Temat för symposiet är Digitaliseringens svarta svanar. Upptäckten av svarta svanar vid européernas ankomst till Australien i slutet av 1600-talet har kommit att användas som en metafor för händelser som tidigare ansetts omöjliga att förutse men som i tillbakablick framstår som oundvikliga. Med inspiration i denna metafor inbjuder vi till presentationer och diskussioner som rör aktuella relationer mellan mediehistoria och digitalisering. Vad för slags nya perspektiv på mediehistoria och mediehistorisk forskning har digitaliseringen medfört? Vilka övergripande erfarenheter och problem kan urskiljas i mediehistoriska digitaliseringsprojekt? Vad är det vi inte vet att vi vet om den digitala utvecklingen och vilken roll spelar mediehistoria för att förstå denna?
Även presentationer kring andra tematiker och frågor med relevans för mediehistorisk forskning i vid bemärkelse är välkomna.
Deadline för abstracts är 12 juni, besked om accepterade bidrag ges 15 augusti.

In 2024, the eleventh conference in the series “The Making of the Humanities” will be hosted by the Lund Centre for the History of Knowledge (LUCK), Lund University, between 9 and 11 October 2024. Call for papers and panels is now open.
The Making of the Humanities conferences are organized by the Society for the History of the Humanities and bring together scholars interested in the history of a wide variety of fields. We welcome panels and papers on any period or region. We are especially interested in work that transcends the history of specific humanities disciplines by comparing scholarly practices across disciplines and civilisations.
This year’s special conference theme is “Shifting Cultures of Knowledge in the History of the Humanities”. In 2024, we encourage papers that address the history of the humanities in relation to broader, multidisciplinary studies on knowledge and scholarship.
Deadline for abstracts: 1 May.
