Här är några nyheter som rör den idéhistoriska tidskriften Lychnos.
Sedan en tid tillbaka har vi gått över till kontinuerlig digital publicering av de artiklar som hör till tidskriftens så kallade ”öppna” del, alltså den delen som ligger före temasektionen (special issue). Vi är glada över att kunna meddela att den första artikeln nu publicerats ”ahead of print”, nämligen Cecilia Rivings artikel ”Hypnotismens apostel. Den andra glada nyheten är att VR har beviljat Lychnos tidskriftsstöd i ytterligare tre år. Det innebär att det kommer finnas ekonomiska förutsättningar att utveckla det redaktionella arbetet i framtiden och att fortsätta publicera Lychnos i både digital och tryckt form.
Slutligen vill vi också påminna om att deadline för att skicka in abstracts till nästa nummers temasektion är den 17 november. Temat är ”Transformations of Popular Science” och CfP ligger på tidskriftens hemsida (samt finns inklistrat här nedan). För den öppna delen saknas deadline, eftersom artiklarna där hanteras och publiceras kontinuerligt.

Transformations of Popular Science
Special issue editors: Jonatan Samuelsson and Jenny Eklöf
In this special issue we invite researchers within areas such as history of science and ideas, history of knowledge, media history, science communication and STS, to contribute to the thematic section of next year’s volume of Lychnos: Annual of the Swedish History of Science Society. The theme – Transformations of Popular Science – tries to capture the many ways in which the role of science in society has been intrinsically tied to questions about popularisation – or more broadly – the public mediation of scientific knowledge, practices, and values.
Popular science is still often conceived of, practiced, and valued in terms of (appropriate) simplification and dissemination. There is, however, a lot more to it, as recent scholarship has reframed the discussion on popularisation to encompass perspectives from other academic fields such as history of science, media and communication studies, cultural studies, and STS. The circulation, mediation and overall public discourse on science, technology and research has consequently begun to be understood in relation to other cultural meaning-making processes, intersecting with questions of democracy, citizenship, consumption, identity, and so forth. Departing from these baseline assumptions, this special issue aims to explore science popularisation, communication, deliberation, and mediation in historical context over the past century (give or take).
We encourage specifically (but not exclusively) contributions that:
* Investigate how the genre and practice of popular science have changed and varied over time in relation to broader transformations of the media and research landscapes in the 20th century and onwards.
* Explore the underlying ideological, conceptual and value-based assumptions that have been guiding popularisation activities in the past, as well as research about popular science. Empirical as well as theoretical and historiographical contributions are welcome.
* Specifically highlight the role of popularisation for all disciplines and research areas, including the humanities and social sciences.
* Take seriously the digital transformation of society and how it has altered conditions for popularisation overall.
* Problematise terms like “popularisation” and “popular science” and their relation to other concepts and practices, like mediated science, expository science, science journalism, knowledge circulation, science fiction, etc.
This special issue focuses on Sweden and the Nordic region in particular, but contributions investigating the history of popular science in other parts of the world are also welcome. Lychnos publishes articles in in Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, and English.
The following types of contributions will be considered:
* Research paper (max 9500 words)
* Historiographical reflections (max 5000 words)
Time frame:
17 November 2023: Deadline for submitting abstracts.
1 December 2023: Confirmation of acceptance of abstracts.
31 March 2024: Deadline for submission of full manuscript. All manuscripts will go through a process of double-blind peer review. Manuscripts should be submitted using the journal website: www.tidskriftenlychnos.se<http://www.tidskriftenlychnos.se>
April–August 2024: Peer review and time for revision of manuscripts.
September–November 2024: Copy editing.
December 2024–January 2025: Publication, print and online.

Lychnos redaktion efterlyser recensenter till kommande årsbok. Bifogat finner ni en lista på böcker som inkommit till redaktionen eller redaktionsrådet har tipsat om. Meddela mig ifall du vill recensera någon eller några av böckerna. Det är först till kvarn som gäller.
Deadline för recensionen är den 31 augusti och ska vara max 6 000 tecken inklusive blanksteg. Mer instruktioner finner du nedan. Några av böckerna har vi redan fått och kan skicka direkt, de flesta andra måste vi be förslaget att skicka. Oavsett är det bra om du anger den adress du vill ha boken skickad till.
Saknar du någon bok i listan som också borde recenseras, så säg till om det. Senare i vår tänker vi skicka ut ytterligare en efterlysning av recensenter.

Skrivinstruktioner för recensioner:
• Bokrecensioner bör inte överstiga 6 000 tecken inklusive huvud och blanksteg.
• Inled med ett recensionshuvud genom att ange bokens huvudtitel kursiverad stil.
Därefter anges; Förnamn Efternamn: Titel utan stora bokstäver annat än för att följa språkliga regler: Undertitel (Förlagsort: Förlag, utgivningsår), x+n s. ISBNXXX-XXX-XXX-XXX-X [3+3+3+3+1], inb./hft. [inbunden resp. häftad].
• Sidnumrera dokumentet.
• Sidhänvisningar till den recenserade boken anges med sidnummer inom parenteser (utan ”s.” eller ”sid.” innan). Exempel: Johanna Johansson återger förvisso de argument som framfördes av klubbens ledning (44–45), men hon ger ännu mer utrymme till deras kritiker (45–49).
• Om du refererar till andra verk än det som huvudsakligen diskuteras, ge hela referensen direkt i löptexten. Väv in författarens namn och publikationens titel (samt eventuell undertitel, då åtskild med punkt) i texten; ange utgivningsort, utgivningsår och eventuell sidhänvisning (efter kommatecken) inom parenteser. Exempel: Som Johanna Johansson skrev i sin banbrytande avhandling December igen. Tankar inför ett nytt år (Stockholm 1944, 33): ”Stockholm är i sanning Skandinaviens huvudstad, eller i alla fall en av dess huvudstäder.”
• Använd inte fot- och slutnoter. Ge plats åt vad du vill säga i texten.
• Dokumentet namnges enligt mallen: ditt efternamn + understreck + bokförfattarens namn (exempel: ”Drakman_Holmqvist.docx”).

Inbjudan till konferensen Idéhistoria på gång
10-11 oktober 2024, Umeå universitet
Välkommen till konferensen Idéhistoria på gång! Konferensen ordnas vart tredje år och vi är glada att denna gång bjuda in till Umeå universitet torsdag-fredag 10-11 oktober 2024. Grundtanken med konferensen är att samla landets idéhistoriker och erbjuda en översikt över pågående idéhistorisk forskning, men även deltagare från övriga Norden samt från näraliggande discipliner är välkomna att delta. Konferensen hålls huvudsakligen på svenska/skandinaviska språk men presentationer på engelska går självklart bra. Vi hoppas att många ska vilja delta med presentation av pågående eller planerad forskning. Även hela sessioner med tre ingående presentationer kan anmälas.
Som vanligt ges i anslutning till konferensen även en doktorandkurs om 7,5 hp, "Nya trender och praktiker inom idéhistoria". Kursen går av stapeln på plats samma vecka 7-11 oktober och konferensen ingår som en del i kursen. Kursbeskrivning på svenska och engelska finns i bifogad fil. Alla doktorander - såväl kursdeltagare som andra - är också välkomna till det särskilda doktorandmöte som anordnas på torsdag förmiddag innan konferensen startar.
Då anordnar vi också ett möte för ämnesföreträdare eller motsvarande, där idéhistorieämnets situation vid varje lärosäte uppmärksammas. Hur är läget för ämnet inom grundutbildning, forskarutbildning samt forskning - såväl innehållsligt som organisatoriskt? Är det något som vi gemensamt kan/bör göra för att stärka ämnet?
Konferensen är kostnadsfri men medlemskap i Lärdomshistoriska samfundet krävs. Medlemskap (inklusive årsboken Lychnos) tecknas här<https://tidskriftenlychnos.se/lhs>. Fika och konferensmiddag ingår, men deltagarna svarar själva för resa och logi.

På gång-konferensen inleds torsdag 10/10 kl. 13.00 och avslutas fredag 11/10 kl. 14.00. Den föregås av ämnesföreträdarmöte/doktorandmöte torsdag 10/10, kl. 10.00-12.
Doktorandkursen inleds måndag 7/10 13.00 och pågår t.o.m. konferensens slut fredag 14.00.
