Ämne: Surveying Sex, Gender and Sexuality - livestream seminar
Hi everyone
Instats is excited to offer a 4-day seminar, Surveying Sex, Gender and Sexuality<https://instats.org/seminar/surveying-sex-gender-and-sexuality?utm_source=E…>, livestreaming September 25 – October 3 and led by Kirstie Ken English from the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Glasgow. Drawing on cutting-edge mixed-method research, this course equips you to design survey questions that capture sex, gender and sexuality in ways that are inclusive, transparent and reflexive. Across four half-day sessions, you’ll engage with queer and feminist critiques of quantification, unpack the UK census debates on LGBTI+ representation, weigh the risks and benefits of data visibility, and apply the TEMPS standards to craft your own survey items. By the end, you’ll understand why data matters, how power shapes categorisation, and how to produce high-quality, ethically sound survey data that better serves diverse communities.
Sign up today<https://instats.org/seminar/surveying-sex-gender-and-sexuality?utm_source=E…> to secure your spot, and share this opportunity with colleagues and students who want to elevate their survey design practices!
Best wishes

Hi all!
There was a lot of interest in continuing our joint writing time on Zoom during the fall, so I have booked three sessions for this, once a month. Everybody is welcome to join at one or all of the sessions.
We work on our own writing projects (or other tasks) and have a short joint introduction and reflections at the end to get to know each other and each other's work a little more. It is a good place to find experts in LGBTQ+ research issues to discuss your current challenges with...
Sept 19, 13.15-15.00 CET
Oct 10, 13.15-15.00 CET
Nov 7, 13.15-15.00 CET
I will send outlook-bookings as well, shortly.
Hope to see you there!

Dear network,
Hope you all have had or are still enjoying restful and inspiring vacations! We are planning this year's network meeting and do not have a complete plan yet, but I would like to update you with what we do know.
The meeting will be in the beginning of week 48, so November 24-25 or 25-26 . Please save the dates!
Invited key-note will be Professor Róisín Ryan-Flood, director at the Centre for Intimate and Sexual Citizenship (CISC), at the University of Essex. She has published widely on LGBTQ+ issues broadly and on queer methodologies specifically.
There might be a possibility for us to meet in Oslo, but it could be Malmö again if we cannot solve some practical issues. I will let you know as soon as possible.
We have received funding for travel and accommodation for approximately 20 people from the Centre for Sexology and Sexuality Studies at Malmö University! We will organize a way to apply for these travel stipends at registration for the network meeting.
Hope to see you in November!
Best,
Catrine

Hi everyone!
And thanks to those of you that participated in the workshop for planning our network meeting for the fall!
We decided that we will arrange a conference/network meeting in Oslo in the last week of November. The theme will be Queer methods and methodologies, and there will be both keynotes and research presentations, as well as a network meeting for planning coming events.
We will have talks with the Nordic research network Queen (QUeer rEfugees rEsearch Network) led by Marlene Spanger, May-Len Skilbrei and Thomas Wimark, to see whether we can arrange this together and combine our research interests!
I am currently applying for funding for travel and accommodation and will let you know how I get on with that.
Considering the theme of the conference we would like to have your suggestions for keynotes, and also suggestions for themed sessions related to queer methods and methodologies! Please let me know your thoughts and ideas on this and I will get back to you with some more detailed plans in June!
Hope to see you at the writing workshop on May 12 as well.
Best,
Catrine

Dear all,
In know I am not so visible in the network, but hope you don't mind that I share this invitation to the coming seminars in this term's Crip and queer seminar series hosted by the Division of Gender studies in Lund. The spring's theme is queer and trans embodiments.
This term's second Crip and Queer Seminar will be 7th May, 13.15-15, in Gamla Lungkliniken 355, hosted by the division of Gender Studies. We are proud to present a lecture by Luca Tainio, adjunct lecturer in Gender Studies at Karlstad University and PhD scholar at Helsinki University: "I'm so proud, I grew it myself": Challenging cisnormative ideals of the penis through trans male embodiment. The Crip and Queer Seminar series is proud to present this lecture. After the seminar - which is open to students, staff, and the general public - we serve fika in the kitchen on the fourth floor of Gamla Lungkliniken. There is an elevator and door openers in the building. Welcome!
Abstract: The seminar explores the notion that the simple division between men with a penis (cis) and those without (trans) fails to capture the embodied realities of many trans men and is largely a discursive construct. Rather than defining trans men's bodies by the absence of 'genital status reserved for cisgender men,' it argues that the non-surgically altered trans penis should be viewed as a body-reflexive practice of masculinity and a key aspect of forming one's trans male identity. The aim is to challenge cultural ideals and to offer a counternarrative to the cisnormative understanding of male embodiment.
Upcoming Crip & Queer seminar:
May 21, 13.15-15, in G:a Lung 355: Creative research methods as a way to move research participants away from individualised conceptualisations of "body image" with Ella Sangmyr, PhD Researcher in the Department for Health at University of Bath and guest scholar at Gender Studies.
Very best regards
