Hi everyone!
And thanks to those of you that participated in the workshop on applications this Friday - it was great to see you and to discuss important aspects of applications...!
Attached are two presentations from me and Ylva Odenbring, and below are some reflections from the discussion that give you an idea of the topics we discussed and perhaps some inspiration for those of you that could not participate.
Looking forward to seeing you for planning a meeting for the fall, on April 24th, see previous invite.
Best,
Catrine
Reflections from LGBTQ+-H-L Network Workshop on Writing Applications
Consider the call and the reviewers for the call - is the perspective of the application specific to your research field, will someone else get the point?
Consider the balance between problem focused research and more agency focused perspectives - both risk being reductive if not used appropriately.
Put a lot of effort into the methods section, clearly outlining the plans, yearly or in stages etc...
Showing network with important organisations, including letters of intent to help with interviews etc.
In addition to applying for LGBTQ+ projects - consider being the LGBTQ-researcher in larger projects and collaborating across themes and fields.
Building resilience for rejections... Social networks and support from colleagues.
Writing applications is very limiting... More freedom in doing the project if you get funding, at least in Finland and often also in Sweden.
Iceland a small context regarding funding, LGBTQ become grouped together with other vulnerable groups, very few research funding opportunities, but on the other hand short pathways to connecting with organisations, municipalities etc.

Ämne: Research seminar: New frontiers in research with Queer refugees
Hello all,
The April 14 the Nordic research network Queen and the Gender and Intersectionality Network Aalborg University (GINAAU) will host a seminar with the title New frontiers in research with Queer refugees that explore new directions and broaden the perspectives impacting the studies of/with Queer refugees in the Nordics. The seminar asks what kind of new concepts and methodologies are relevant to push knowledge further in the Nordic region? For instance, how are queer refugees and migrants affected by and used in the Nordic and the global "migration paradigm shifts"? What new methodologies are needed to explore the legal, cultural and social differences in the receiving societies? The seminar will both pay attention to the ongoing changes in the asylum regime, but also LGBTIQ+ support communities and networks, and other civil spaces.
We have invited Prof. Mengia Hong Tschalaer (CUNY) to give the keynote along with other presentations given by members from our network.
You are more than welcome to join us either in person or online as well as circulate the programme in your network. For the full programme and registration see the attached.
All the best,
Marlene

Welcome to a workshop on writing applications for LGBTQ+ projects!
We meet on Zoom for a workshop on what to consider when applying for funding for LGBTQ+ and closely related projects. Ylva Odenbring, Lena Sotevik and myself will together with the workshop participants have a joint discussion on our experiences and thoughts on strategy and cooperation, differences regarding disciplines, countries or types of funding etc.
We will also discuss each other's applications for those who want feedback on anything from feasibility issues to a brief idea of a future project! If you want to send out a text or present something, let me know on March 21 at the latest, and I will distribute a program for the seminar to the participants.
Hope to see you there,
Catrine Andersson

Hi everyone!
I received a tip about a call for chapter contributions for a new book that may be of interest to some of you! The book is called Making Space for Trans and Non-Binary Lives in the Workplace and the editors are Saoirse O'Shea (Open University, UK), Ilaria Boncori (University of Essex, UK), and Olga Suhomlinova (University of Leicester, UK).
I am attaching the chapter call in pdf format, you can find all details there.
Happy Thursday!
