New article about Finnish social work education

Dear all, Our new article was just published. We have published from the same data before in Finnish, but this is the first publication in English. It tackles social work education from LGBTQI+ perspectives and social work students' attitudes and knowledge gaps in Finland: Clarke, K., Söderström, I., Sullivan, C. B., & Rossi, L. M. (2026). LGBTQI+ inclusion in Finnish social work education: reality or empty talk? Social Work Education, 1–19. https://doi.org/10.1080/02615479.2026.2639040 Abstract: This article explores how homogenising views of equality and the lack of academic research on LGBTQI+ issues in Finnish social work contributes to the invisibility of gender and sexuality topics in social work education. It discusses the Finnish historical context of LGBTQI+ legislation and the struggle for legal equality. The article considers Finnish social work research on LGBTQI+ issues highlighting the shortcomings of social work practice knowledge with these communities. Through a multidimensional survey of master’s-level social work students across five Finnish universities, the study explores students’ attitudes, knowledge, and perceived readiness to work with LGBTQI+ service users. The findings show that students report positive attitudes toward LGBTQI+ people, but they also indicate significant gaps in knowledge, especially regarding structural discrimination and the specific needs of gender and sexual minorities. These gaps were more pronounced among heterosexual students, suggesting that personal identity may play a greater role than formal education in shaping awareness of LGBTQI+ issues. The findings of the limited survey imply the need for more explicit inclusion of LGBTQI+ perspectives in social work curricula, which require further research and pedagogical strategies that promote critical reflection, intersectional analysis, and LGBTQI+ affirmative practice. Installing APK file on PC

APK files are Android application packages that are originally designed to run on Android devices, but they can also be installed and used on a PC with the help of special tools. Since Windows does not support APK files natively, users need an intermediary platform such as an Android emulator or a subsystem environment to run them properly. This makes it possible to enjoy mobile applications and games on a larger screen with improved performance and easier control using a keyboard and mouse. One of the most common ways to install APK files on a PC is by using an Android emulator such as BlueStacks, LDPlayer, or NoxPlayer. These emulators create a virtual Android environment inside your computer, allowing you to run mobile applications just like you would on a smartphone. After installing the emulator, download it from https://royaldreamapks.com you can simply drag and drop the APK file into it or use the built-in installation option to run the app. Once installed, the application appears inside the emulator, ready to use. Another method is available for Windows 11 users through the Windows Subsystem for Android. This feature allows Android applications to run more natively within the Windows environment. In this case, users may need to enable developer mode and use tools like ADB commands to install APK files manually. Although this method is more advanced, it offers better integration and performance compared to traditional emulators. In some limited cases, lightweight APK files can be run through browser-based tools or extensions, but this approach is outdated and not suitable for most modern applications. It is also important to understand that not every APK file will work perfectly on a PC because some apps depend on mobile-specific hardware features like GPS, sensors, or Google Play Services. Overall, installing APK files on a PC is a practical way to access mobile apps on a desktop environment. With the right tools, users can easily run Android applications for gaming, testing, or general use while enjoying the benefits of a larger screen and better system performance.

CfP network conference 8-9 October in Tampere!

We are happy to invite you to our network’s conference to be held at the Tampere University, Finland, on 8–9 October 2026. The theme of the conference is Creating New Spaces – for collaboration, research, and public engagement. You can find more information from the conference website<https://events.tuni.fi/creatingnewspaces/> and the call for papers below: The conference invites us to think together about how we can create and sustain new spaces for collaboration, research ideas, theoretical development and public engagement. These spaces are grounded in the everyday lives, needs, and knowledge of LGBTQI+ people themselves. At a time when LGBTQI+ rights are under threat across the world and hard-won legal protections are being rolled back, the work is more urgent than ever. This urgency is felt acutely by trans and non-binary people, whose access to healthcare, legal recognition, and social belonging is increasingly contested and often in ways that affect people’s everyday life in multiple ways. Anti-gender movements have not only targeted LGBTQI+ communities from outside, but have actively worked to sow division within them, making solidarity and a commitment to the well-being of all community members a research and political necessity. Research communities can themselves be spaces of hope where knowledge is broadened collectively and connections are built and cultivated across borders and disciplines, but only when that knowledge is rooted in the lived realities and well-being of the communities we work with and within. This conference is an opportunity for both established and early-career researchers to share ideas, present their work, forge new partnerships, and collectively reflect on Nordic LGBTQI+ health and welfare research. We particularly welcome contributions that push beyond deficit frameworks toward research that takes seriously what thriving, care, and hope look like for gender and sexual minorities. In my doctoral research I argue that gender must be reconceptualised through trans theory and understood as fundamentally diverse, if we hope to produce meaningful change in the inequal gendered structures of Finnish comprehensive education. I am conducting my research at Tampere University in the Faculty of Social Sciences, in the subject of Gender Studies. My research is transdisciplinary and utilises multiple datasets. In my presentation, I will introduce findings from my first two articles, published and in review, respectively. The topics of these studies are 1) past school experiences of trans young adults and 2) discourses surrounding gender diversity among teacher education students. I will also present the broader theoretical discussion of my research, which includes trans pedagogy and trans theory, and Foucauldian theory of power and critical discourse analysis. Welcome! Online symposia Queering Dementia, and book release

Welcome to the symposium Queering dementia: current research on LGBTQ+ people living with dementia April 22, 2-4.30pm (GMT+1) This online symposium brings together current international scholarship on LGBTQ+ people living with dementia. Boken bygger på den FORTE-finansierade forskningsstudien HBTQ och demens i policy och praktik i svensk demensomsorg. I studien har vi försökt besvara frågor som vad händer med identiteter och relationer för hbtq-personer som lever med demenssjukdom? Hur upplevs demensomsorgen? Hur kan demensomsorgen möta hbtq-personers liv, relationer och erfarenheter på ett tryggt och inkluderande sätt? Med utgångspunkt i intervjuer med hbtq-personer med demenssjukdom och deras anhöriga, samt medarbetare inom demensomsorgen, och genom analyser av policy, belyser boken vilka erfarenheter och villkor som finns för hbtq-personer i demensomsorgen.
