Warmly welcome to the launch of the newly indexed Swedish Language Testimonies in the USC Shoah Foundation Visual History Archives on October 5th at 4-7PM (Swedish time) at the Swedish Holocaust Museum (also possible to join on zoom)!
The launch is organized in co-operation with the Swedish Holocaust Museum, the IHRS and the USC Shoah Foundation. The project has made Swedish-language Holocaust survivor testimonies more accessible for research, education and public engagement through comprehensive indexing. By making 209 testimonies searchable across more than 70,000 terms including people, places, events, experiences and subjects, the project opens new possibilities for exploring this important collection and asking new questions of the material.
The launch brings together everyone interested in working with Holocaust testimonies, survivor narratives and oral history to reflect on the possibilities and challenges of working with testimony collections. What can searchable testimony archives offer researchers and the public? How do methods of indexing and digital access shape the ways in which testimonies can be explored and interpreted? And what new perspectives emerge when individual life stories can be studied both in depth and across a larger collection?
The programme will introduce the Swedish-language indexing project and its development,
followed by a panel discussion with Professor Malin Thor Tureby, Associate Professor Simo Muir and Dr. Victoria Martinez, moderated by Karin Kvist Geverts.
