Subject: Fwd: IFLA Division IV Units - a Webinar Series for LIS Students
To: <ifla-l at iflalists.org<mailto:ifla-l at iflalists.org>>
Dear IFLA colleagues,
I am delighted to inform you that the Division IV - Support of the Profession is launching
a joint project of the IFLA Division IV Units - a Webinar Series for LIS Students.
The aim is to involve Library and Information Science (LIS) students as future librarians,
in an international dialogue with the IFLA community about the future of LIS. This
initiative creates a place for students to share their projects, research, and ideas about
different topics related to libraries.
The joint project supports IFLA’s strategic directions: to inspire, engage, enable, and
connect.
1. It inspires students to conduct research and consider libraries’ experience in
timely and important LIS areas which are relevant to the LIS professional community.
2. It engages them to be members of a professional library community, introducing them
to professional competencies and providing them with experiences that they can apply to
future participation in IFLA activities.
3. It enables students to implement research or projects relevant in their communities
and share their results with professional communities worldwide.
4. It connects actors involved in the library field: members of the units of Division
IV - Support of the Profession who represent professional communities, LIS schools’
educators and students, libraries of various types; library associations at various
levels, etc.
Each month - April through May 2021 - we will address a different theme and a new call for
proposals will be issued for that month. All webinars are held online and open to everyone
(no registration fees).
The first webinar is held on April 22, 2021 (Time will be confirmed depending on the time
zones of the speakers). Its theme is “Getting Engaged with Library Associations -
Benefits, Issues, Factors”. LIS students at all levels are encouraged to submit a proposal
about the topic. See the call for proposals
here<https://www.ifla.org/node/93745>
We invite LIS students from different countries to join an international dialogue that
will help them to become a part of the professional community.
As Chair of Division IV, I would like to thank all units who are collaborating on this
initiative. A special thanks to Albina Krymskaya, secretary of the Education and Training
Section (SET) who has the lead on this work.
I hope many of you will take this exciting opportunity to increase the international
dialogue with LIS students, our future colleagues.
Best wishes,
Catharina Isberg
