Utilising a Digital Workflow to Support Mentor's Development and Enhance Peer
Learning
Speakers: Tom Allars and Amanda Pocklington. University of Exeter
The University of Exeter introduces the workflow, a unique digital checklist allowing the
University to monitor the development and progress of each mentor, quickly identify and
fix any issues within a programme and ensure each student receives exceptional support.
The workflow provides a vital platform for posting training, resources and feedback
sessions, collect in registers and allow mentors to enhance their time as a mentor by
completing development and networking activities all in one easily accessible place. This
efficient monitoring tool also evidences each students' hard work and dedication to
their programme, reflected within their Higher Education Achievement Report.
About the presenters:
Amanda Pocklington
Amanda started her teaching career as a lecturer in Sport and Health where she developed
and managed two Foundation Degree programmes as well as teaching up to PG level. She is
now an Academic Skills adviser and Peer Programmes Manager at the University of Exeter.
She has overall responsibility for the successful support and development of the extensive
array of peer programmes geared towards supporting students' educational and personal
development. She also supports various student engagement activities designed to encourage
and support WP students. She is a founding member of the UK based Academic Peer Learning
group and the SW Peer Support Network. She also Chairs LearnHigher which offers a platform
for the sharing of Learning Development resources, and is a member of the ALDinHE Steering
Group.
Tom Allars
Tom is an Academic Skills and Student Engagement Officer with the University of Exeter,
his role primarily focuses on aiding Peer Programme development and WP scheme initiatives.
He worked previously as a part-time Sabbatical Officer with the Students' Guild to
build supporting networks and reporting structures for WP students, predominantly mature
students, and both volunteered and worked in Guild peer-to-peer support projects aimed
with easing the transition to HE.
We look forward to welcoming you to this and future webinars.
Best wishes
Catherine
