Historiska institutionen på Stockholms universitet utlyser upp till två doktorandanställningar i historia inom forskningsprojektet "Den urbana välfärden 1840–1920: välfärdsstadens genombrott”.
https://su.varbi.com/what:job/jobID:852242/where:4/

Dear Martin:
I hope you are enjoying your holidays.
I know you have finished your research on trade, but I am sending you this information in case you are interested or could send it to a colleague who studies maritime and trade issues. It concerns the European Association for Urban History (EAUH) conference to be held in Barcelona from 2 to 5 September 2026. The call for proposals remains open until 22/10/2025.
https://www.eauhbarcelona2026.eu/sessions/
I am coordinating a panel, No. 28, on general port, maritime and trade issues. Each panel requires between 6 and 8 proposals. Bearing in mind that the other two coordinators are from Modern History, I estimate that we will be able to accept four proposals, on a first-come, first-served basis. Anyone interested in this topic, please write to me at this email address:

Dear 18th-century people,
We are here with information about this fall's events.
Network meeting for doctoral students working on 18th-century subjects
Following the success of last year's one-day event at the SAXO Institute in Copenhagen, we are delighted to announce that a second Eighteenth-Century History Meeting will take place this autumn. This year's gathering is scheduled for Thursday, 9 October 2025, at "LUX" - the campus of The Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology at Lund University (Helgonavägen 3).
As before, the focus will be on doctoral students, offering a collegial forum for presenting work-in-progress, receiving constructive feedback, and building networks across borders and institutions. Presentations will be held in English, and each participant is expected to prepare a 15-minute presentation, followed by a discussion and feedback from peers and senior scholars.
The network meeting stems from a collaboration between the Eighteenth-Century Research Forum/University of Copenhagen and Lund University, but doctoral students from other institutions are more than welcome to participate, provided they are working on the 18th century.
We expect to begin at 11:00 and conclude with dinner in the evening. Please note that the final start time may change once we know the exact number of participants.
If you would like to attend, please send us the (working) title of your thesis along with the name of your institution to Jesper Jakobsen (jesper.jakobsen(a)kultur.lu.se<mailto:jesper.jakobsen@kultur.lu.se>).
We look forward to seeing many of you in Lund this October.
The organizing committee:
Tine Damsholt (KU), Juliane Engelhardt (KU), Jesper Jakobsen (LU), Magne Klasson (LU), Ulrik Langen (KU), Jonas Nordin (LU), Gunvor Simonsen (KU), Patrick van der Geest (LU)
In November, we have a regular ECRF seminar prepared for you:
On November 12, from 3 to 5, Benjamin Brandt Christiansen will give a presentation based on his PhD thesis Managing furious insanity: Hospital cell confinement and its alternatives in eighteenth-century Denmark.
More information about this event will be provided in a future email - but remember to save the date.
Best regards,
ECRF

Dear colleagues,
We are pleased to invite proposals for the Tenth Norwegian History of Science Conference (NHSC10), which is being organized by NVF - The Norwegian Association for the History of Science<https://foreninger.uio.no/nvf/english/>, and hosted in Bergen, Norway, 5-7 November 2025.
The theme of the conference is "Science and Communication"
About the Conference
The Norwegian History of Science Conference brings together scholars working on the history of science, medicine and technology on any theme, topic, or period to discuss historical, epistemological, political, institutional, and ethical issues of relevance to both Scandinavian and international audiences, welcoming researchers of all nationalities at all stages of their careers. The tenth conference in the series coincides with the 200th anniversary of Bergen Museum, the origins of the University of Bergen, and the local organizers extend a special invitation to those involved in history of science, medicine and technology taking place at museums and collections.
The first Norwegian Conference on the History of Science was organized in Oslo in 2008 with the aim of establishing a national network for historians of science, medicine and technology. Since then, the conference has been hosted biannually in Tromsø, Trondheim, Oslo, and Bergen, and the conference has established itself as a forum for both national and international exchange of ideas and collaboration. At the ninth conference held in Trondheim in 2023, NVF - The Norwegian Association for the History of Science was established to serve as host of the conference.
Theme
The overarching theme of this year's conference is "Science and Communication", understood in a broad sense. Twenty years ago, James Secord argued for studying science as communication, stressing the ways that ideas and practices were moved from one place to another. Following his call, historians of science have offered detailed studies of communication devices such as newspapers, public talks and demonstrations, movies, radio, and the internet have shaped what and how we know things. Others have studied ways to communicate, display, or store scientific knowledge and objects, for example in museums and collections. In the museum sector there has been an increased tendency to address ethical issues associated with the origins of their collections. Several studies have also offered new insights into who has been deemed the ideal science communicator, as well as how ideas about science audiences have changed. Last, but not least, a growing number of studies have offered invaluable insights into what knowledge has been deemed not suitable for communication, or what happens when knowledge is produced against the wishes of the scientist.
While the main theme of the conference is "Science and Communication", papers and panels on other topics related to the history of science, medicine and technology are equally welcome, as the conference aims to reflect ongoing activities in the field and continue to provide an important meeting point.
Keynote lectures will be given by Anne Eriksen from the University of Oslo and Staffan Bergwik from Stockholm University. Eriksen will talk about "Bergen Museum 1825. Knowledge for a Public Sphere", while Bergwik will talk about "Epochs, Trajectories, Rhythms: Visions of Historical Time and Scientific Knowledge in the 20th Century".
