Dear all doctoral students,
Welcome to the Swedish LIS Doctoral School Network Writing Retreat on the 25-26 October.
The Writing Retreat will take place at Elite Stora Hotellet in Örebro, just opposite Örebro castle. The retreat will give ample of time for writing, but it will also offer networking opportunities, a discussion with experienced researchers about writing as an LIS scholar, and some time for recreation and fun. You can see a preliminary schedule below.
The Writing Retreat is the first of its kind and has been made possible through the support of the Swedish Library Association.
Please register for the retreat through this form no later than 23 September: https://www.hb.se/en/research/doctoral-education/our-phd-programmes/library…
Please indicate when you will arrive - the programme starts at 9.00 on the 25 October, so you have the option to arrive the night before and have dinner together. Please also indicate if you want to participate in one of the recreational activities (please note that the SPA has limited capacity, so please register early to secure your spot) and if you have any dietary requirements.
Travel arrangements should be made as soon as you have registered. Doctoral students at the University of Borås are asked to organise their travel through Via Egencia. Doctoral students from Uppsala, Lund, and Umeå, please contact Anette Trennedal anette.trennedal(a)hb.se<mailto:anette.trennedal@hb.se> to organise your travel to and from Örebro.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about the retreat.
Kind regards,
Anna

Hej!
Deltagande i Shut Up & Write är frivilligt.
Anna
Dear all,
I hope that you have had an enjoyable summer break.
On Friday 26 August at 1.15pm to 3pm, we will run the Swedish LIS Doctoral School Network Shut Up & Write on Zoom: https://hb-se.zoom.us/j/68942920214
The idea is simple: For 45 minutes, all participants - PhD students as well as senior researchers - will sit and write in silence (please use mute). Thereafter follows a 15 minute break where participants meet in breakout rooms and get the chance to present themselves and the text that they are working on. After this, another 45 minute writing session follows.
Participation is voluntary. You get to choose what type of text you want to work on - a paper manuscript, a PhD thesis chapter, a book chapter, or any other type of text that is relevant to you as a PhD student or researcher. Participation offers an opportunity to create focused writing time and also to meet PhD students and senior researchers from all LIS departments in Sweden.
We will also run sessions on the following dates, always at 1.15pm to 3pm: 30 September, 28 October, and 25 November.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. I hope to see you on Friday.
Kind regards,
Anna

Anna
Dear all,
A while ago, I forwarded an email about the course "Theories in Library and Information Science" at Oslo Metropolitan University. The schedule of this course meant that other PhD courses needed to be rescheduled and, in turn, that we will have to reschedule the doctoral writing retreat from 6-7 October to the 25-26 October. More information about location, travel arrangements, registration etc. will be sent out in August - but please note these new dates in your calendars.
Wishing you all a nice summer break,
Anna

Dear all,
Please find attached the Call for Papers for the next issue of Tidskrift för ABM. Deadline: 10 October 2022. Please direct any questions or comments to me.
Those of you who are teaching, please spread the information to your students and encourage them to submit.
In addition, we really appreciate it if you would spread this CFP further within your networks. Do consider submitting a piece yourself, as well.
Information for authors is available on the TABM website<https://www.abm.uu.se/research/publications/tidskrift-for-abm/authorguideli…>, including a description of the submission type 'reviews' that we introduced in the 2021 issue. We hope this to be a low-barrier way for you or your students to reflect on any type of media (e.g. a book, exhibition, software, film) and its purpose, use, or meaning to our respective academic field(s). We welcome critical reflections on both academic and popular (re)sources.
Thank you for spreading the word!

Dear LIS colleagues!
This is to inform you all that in autumn 2022 there will be a new round of the popular PhD course "Theories in Library and Information Science" at Oslo Metropolitan University. The course comes with two options, as it can either be 5 ECTS or 7,5 ECTS, depending on length of written output. We hope to see many PhD students from across the Nordic region and the world. Please distribute this information to your relevant networks (and sorry for any cross-posting).
Course structure: independent studies, digital course components and a three-day in-person seminar taking place at Oslo Metropolitan University, Norway, October 3-5, 2022.
Short description: The content of this doctoral study course is based on selected fields of contemporary research in library and information science (LIS). It is designed for Nordic and Baltic LIS doctoral students, but also suitable for doctoral students in LIS in any other part of the world or in related research areas. The course gives a broad presentation of research themes within LIS, aiming to enable the students to place their dissertation project in a library and information science theory and research tradition and to be able to communicate with researchers in the field and other students across sub-academic areas. Through the seminars we will discuss the relationship between library and information science as an area of research and practice. Lectures are delivered by internationally established Nordic researchers and the required literature is inclined to reputable research published in English language. The examination is in the form of an essay closely related to the student's own thesis topic. The course is given in English. Full course description here: https://student.oslomet.no/en/studier/-/studieinfo/emne/PS9300/2022/H%C3%98…
