Hi everyone!

And thanks to those of you that participated in the workshop on applications this Friday – it was great to see you and to discuss important aspects of applications…!

Attached are two presentations from me and Ylva Odenbring, and below are some reflections from the discussion that give you an idea of the topics we discussed and perhaps some inspiration for those of you that could not participate.

Reflections from LGBTQ+-H-L Network Workshop on Writing Applications

Consider the call and the reviewers for the call – is the perspective of the application specific to your research field, will someone else get the point?

Consider the balance between problem focused research and more agency focused perspectives – both risk being reductive if not used appropriately.

Put a lot of effort into the methods section, clearly outlining the plans, yearly or in stages etc…

Showing network with important organisations, including letters of intent to help with interviews etc.

In addition to applying for LGBTQ+ projects – consider being the LGBTQ-researcher in larger projects and collaborating across themes and fields.

Building resilience for rejections… Social networks and support from colleagues.

Writing applications is very limiting… More freedom in doing the project if you get funding, at least in Finland and often also in Sweden.

Iceland a small context regarding funding, LGBTQ become grouped together with other vulnerable groups, very few research funding opportunities, but on the other hand short pathways to connecting with organisations, municipalities etc.
