USC Shoah Foundation Swedish Holocaust Indexing Project

USC Shoah Foundation – The Institute for Visual History and Education is seeking a Swedish indexing supervisor for the Institute's Swedish Holocaust indexing project. The project involves indexing Swedish language interviews with survivors and witnesses of the Holocaust. This is an opportunity for bilingual speakers of Swedish and English. The project will start immediately and run through May 2025.
Candidates with an MA-level or higher degree in European History, Political Science, Judaic Studies, Holocaust Studies, Genocide Studies, or related fields are preferred.
Indexing allows the audiovisual testimonies in the Institute’s Visual History Archive to be highly searchable. Indexers assign subject terms to one-minute segments of testimony in the Visual History Archive, matching what the interviewee is talking about at that increment of time with thesaurus terms.  The Swedish indexing supervisor will first complete a training course on how to index testimonies and then remotely oversee approximately four other indexers in Sweden.
The indexing training takes up to 8 weeks to complete. Upon successful completion, the Swedish indexing supervisor will train other indexers and manage the project. Indexing work created by the Swedish indexers will be included in the Visual History Archive. The Swedish indexing supervisor must be available to work for 20 hours per week. A computer with internet access is required. After the training period, work hours are flexible. Work is 100% remote.
