Sexuality and Migration: Contemporary Themes and Ways Forward – 7-9 December 2022, Linnaeus University (Växjö)

The conference examines the intersection of migration and sexuality through scholarly presentations as well as dialogues with different professionals working with migrants on themes of gender, sexuality, and sexual health in Sweden. It will be hosted by the Centre for Concurrences in Colonial and Postcolonial Studies (Linnaeus University), in collaboration with the Centre for Sexology and Sexual Studies (Malmö University), and the Centre of Cultural Sociology (Linnaeus University).

We will have thematic panels on sexual health and access to public health, young people and education, sexuality in civic education programs, the experience and position of LGBTQIA migrants and refugees, colonial regimes and postcolonial perspectives on intimacy, transactional sex, transnational relationships, and the complexities of honor related violence. Each panel will start with an introduction by a leading national scholar, invited because of their prominence in the field in terms of current research and publication. After their introduction, other papers will follow, selected through an open call for papers.

We will also have a round table with scholars and professionals/practitioners working in relevant areas with migrants in Sweden. After the panel, professionals and practitioners will be invited to a participatory workshop with hands-on activities for a creative discussion around migration, sexuality, and intimacy.
