In the article, the vision of a university library in the year 2040 is sketched out. The tasks and roles of libraries in a society that, on the one hand, is heavily digitised and, on the other, has a great need for social contact, are outlined. The way media and information are used has changed radically. The core is an information platform on which prepared content is available using AI as required – from linked data clouds generated by AI to the underlying data. Due to the rationalisation of human work, meaningful leisure activities and continuous education are becoming incredibly important – and libraries play an important role in this.
